Indonesian music genres

There are a lot of music genres in this world, but there are music genres that olny can find in Indonesia. There are 3 types of them; Keroncong, Campursari, and Dangdut.

Keroncong
It called Keroncong because comes from the instrument, the sound like chrong-chrong-chrong. Usually with instruments such as; Ukulele, Cello, Guitar, Bass, Flute, Violin. Mostly,
Keroncong sing in Javanese language (not Indonesia language), Javanese is one of regional languages that using by the Javanese (in Central Java, Yogjakarta, East Java). Geographically, West Java and Jakarta part of Java island but demographicaly, West Java and Jakarta are not part of Javanese. West Java part of Sundanese, while Jakarta part of Betawi (both refers to tribes), they have different language and culture.

In millenium era, Keroncong becomes rare, but Bondan Prakoso & Fade 2 Black is fused Keroncong with Hip-Hop, with tittle Keroncong protol.

Campursari
In 1968 at Gunung Kidul (an area near Yogjakarta), a local musician named Manthous intruduced Campursari. It called Campursari because is a mixture of Gamelan music and Keroncong ('campur' means mixture). More less same with Keroncong, mostly it sings with Javanese language.

Didi Kempot (Maestro) - Cucak Rowo,

Didi Kempot - Sewu Kutho

Nowadays, campursari category as rare music only few singer that sing this genre. Pop Jawa Suriname (the Dutch brought the Javanese to Suriname) more less same with this. Javanese Surinamese ancestor came from Javanese Indoesia.

Dangdut
Indonesian so simple to name something. Like Campursari that derived from mixture of Gamelan and Keroncong, Keroncong that derived from the sound of that instrument and Dangdut came from instrument. It uses Tabla, and makes sound 'dang-dut', this is how Dangdut name comes from. Dangdut exist in Nusantara nation (Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei), but with different style. In Malaysia and Brunei it called 'Musik Melayu Asli'(refers to pop Melayu) while Dangdut (Indonesia) is not use Malayu style. If we talks about Nusantara nation it will be complicated, because it talks about kingdoms and empire in ancient times). Dangdut also use for misionary endavour, and lecture. The different is Dangdut have 'cengkok' is a voice tone.
Rhoma Irama - Mirasantika

Like Rhoma Irama (King of Dangdut), his song always consists of moral story. Like Mirasantika, the songs teach us to not drink alcohol because it give bad effect to us. Begadang teach us to not sleep very late because it useless if we sleep very late, 'Begadang jangan begadang, kalo tiada artinya' 'Do not sleep very late, if we do not have to something do'.
Rhoma Irama - Begadang

Then Dangdut developed into something new, Dangdut Koplo. Dangdut Koplo is a Dangdut song that turned into club night song (add with house music). Then, there was rising of Dangdut night club and with that Dangdut is fallen, and becomes for low class people. Some of Dangdut club night can we find in Indonesia cities.

In Millenium era, Dangdut rise again but now with add Western genre, we can call it as Modern Dangdut and nowadays it acceptable within society.
Cita Citata - Sakitnya Tuh Disini (modern Dangdut, and its kind of Dangdut Koplo)

Cita Citata - Goyang Dumang (Dangdut Koplo)

Ayu Ting Ting - Sambalado
Ayu Ting Ting - Alamat Palsu
Elvish Sukaesih - Kereta Malam (old Dangdut)
Soimah - Pelet Cinta (Modern Dangdut)

Some foreigners interested with it, then they made their own single in Dangdut genre, like Ricky Ujung from South Korea and Alina Saraswati from Russia. Though, Dangdut becomes international genre (not in big scale), it becomes course in one of University in USA. Dangdut is quite interesting to learn, like how Raggae from Jamaica became internationally.
Ricky Ujung (Hwang Woo Jung) - Mama Papa (Modern Dangdut by foreigner, South Korea)
Alina Saraswati (Alina Salimgareeva) - Pengen Kawin

Keroncong and Campursari singer not much as Dangdut singer. If you often listen Indonesia Pop, you will know the different with Dangdut, if you first time see Dangdut, it looks like pop, but if you see carefully, both has different.
